Clear ice with cracks and trapped air bubbles on Lake Torneträsk reflecting northern lights near Abisko with Mount Noulja and an ice fishing hut in the distance

For a long time I wanted to take photos on a frozen lake with the northern lights reflecting off the ice but last season the lake froze and then it snowed almost immediately. Yesterday I finally found the time to head out with @zonek_photography who also encouraged me to experiment with focus stacking. This is a technique that blends multiple images focused at different distances close middle and infinity. While not perfect this experiment sparked my interest. Over the past years I have gotten to know my brain a little better and learned that in order not to lose interest in something like photography I need to constantly expand my skills. I have put the camera down before but I am not willing to do that again any time soon.

Discover the Arctic Through My Lens

Welcome to Fabian Wimmer Photography, a window into the far north. From my base in Abisko, Sweden I capture the magic of the Arctic sky: shimmering auroras, endless winter nights and the quiet beauty of untamed landscapes.

This website is your gateway to my world of photography, exploration and northern light chasing. Visit the Portfolios to see my favorite moments under the aurora, in the mountains and among Arctic wildlife. Each photograph tells a story from calm polar nights to the first light of returning spring.

If you want to see what’s happening in the sky right now, the Webcam pages stream live images from Abisko and other locations. You can even follow my Abisko Aurora Alert✨ system, which monitors the night sky and notifies you when northern lights appear.

As an Arctic guide I spend many nights outside with guests from around the world, sharing the stories, science and myths behind the northern lights. This website extends that experience, connecting you to the same beauty whether you’re in Lapland or on the other side of the world.

Explore, enjoy and stay inspired by the light of the north. When the aurora dances I’ll be there, camera ready.
